Internet Townsquare
In Real Time Marketing and PR by David Meerman Scott he talks about the internet being like a town square. This is a great way of explaining the internet and social media. I have grown up mostly in a generation that has information at their fingertips. Anything I need to find is just a few clicks away. If there is a song that I haven't heard in ten years I can find it on YouTube or download it from iTunes. The same goes for television shows that have been cancelled for a long time. I know there will be at least one site that will allow me to watch that television show. So I agree that the internet is a virtual town square. I get on my computer and I can see what my friends are doing on Facebook, on Twitter I can see what celebrities and companies are saying. On Instagram I can see pictures of my friends and celebrities. This seems normal and sometimes necessary to me because I grew up with technology and social media. I don't know how things are going to evolve in the future but I think social media, in one way or another will always be around.
